GOD'S PANOPLY: Strata

Strata Sublime

Quotation MarksI love the polychromatic hues with which God painted the strata of His landscape! He never ceases to amaze with His resplendent Creation, and the subtle layers He builds into it. This sublime strata manifests the azure of His heavenly authority, the gold of His shining glory, the crimson of Christ’s precious blood shed on our behalf, the sienna of the cross upon which He sacrificed Himself, the olive green of renewal that His redemption brings to the saved, the violet of His royal sovereignty, the chartreuse of new growth in our previously fallow ground, and the vermillion of the cleansing fire of His Holy Spirit in our souls. Blessed beauty indeed!

—A. deLeeuw

You can see how God loves and values color in these verses! “Fashion a breastpiece for making decisions—the work of skilled hands. Make it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. It is to be square—a span long and a span wide—and folded double. Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. The first row shall be carnelian, chrysolite and beryl; the second row shall be turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald; the third row shall be jacinth, agate and amethyst; the fourth row shall be topaz, onyx and jasper. Mount them in gold filigree settings. There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.” Exodus 28:15-21

RAINFALL: Liquid Sunshine

Liquid Sunshine

Quotation MarksRainfall, especially when one lives in the desert, is a blessing indeed, and I wanted to capture this liquid sunshine with my camera while in Fern Canyon. God promises, “I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit.” Leviticus 26:4

Fern Canyon Tree

Fern Canyon Tree

Quotation MarksI honestly have no idea the species of this tree, but I just love his gnarly sinuousness that communicates stoicism and humble endurance, both very admirable traits. Deep in the Pacific temperate rain forest, it was definitely low-light conditions, so to capture enough of the highlights, I managed to blow out the shadows. Still, it was such a captivating subject, and resplendent verdure, I just had to use it. I hope the stunning beauty of God’s Creation will overcome any of my limitations.

MARSH GRASS: Wind in Motion

MARSH GRASS: Wind in Motion

Quotation MarksThis is my attempt at capturing wind, though it is not actually visible, by capturing its effect. I slowed my shutter speed as much as the light would allow combined with the lowest ISO and deepest focal length. I must confess that I am rather pleased with the effect, although I can never truly capture one of God’s most ephemeral Creations.

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.” 1 Kings 19:11, 12

SUNRAY: God's Panoply

SUNRAY: God’s Panoply

Quotation MarksThis diaphanous play of vapor and sunbeams is just one of God’s many wondrous panoplies that He extravagantly bestows on us every day. As flamboyant as were this past weekend’s Independence Day celebratory fireworks, nothing can eclipse even one of God’s most commonplace displays!
