Mourning Dove Vignette

Mourning Dove Peering Through Diamond Lattice

Quotation MarksI loved capturing this Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) peering at me from his perch atop his haphazardly constructed nest in an echinated Cholla (Cylindropuntia fulgida) cactus. You may recognize the vigilance expressed by the constricted feathers around his head and neck that gives his eyes the protruding effect. The glint of the sun in his left eye provides a devilish twinkle, and the natural vignetting created by the branches of the Cholla produces a dramatic composition to mirror his intensity. What a fun snippet into the day and life of a mourning dove!
